Year 2008 Weekly Crime Stoppers Information:McGruff the Crime Dog - Take a Bite Out of Crime

December 8th, 2008
The Dawson County Crime Stoppers program encourages the public to report drunk drivers, or suspected drunk drivers through our new anonymous text messaging system this holiday season. Start the message with "tip707", complete the message, and send it to "CRIMES". Tipsters can also use our hotlines at 784-1234 or toll free at 1-866-652-7383 to anonymously report crimes. Let's keep our roadways safe this holiday season. Not only could you save a life, you could also receive a cash reward.

November 17, 2008 - Media Release: The Dawson County Crime Stoppers program paid $950 in cash rewards this month to anonymous tipsters that used our program. Tipsters can submit web tips by visiting our website at
www.dawsoncountycrimestoppers.com Tipsters can also text their tips by beginning the message with "tip707", completing it, and sending it to "CRIMES" (274637). As always, tipsters can call one of our hotlines (local) 784-1234 or toll free at 1-866-652-7383. By using the web tips, text tips, or hotline tips, all tipsters will remain completely anonymous. If an arrest is made with your tip, then you are paid in CASH.

Crime stoppers has seen dramatic success since implementing the web and text tip program. It is an easier way for tipsters to communicate their information. Tipsters go to the website and submit their information. A totally anonymous communication can be performed which results in more cash for the tipster and more arrests. Tipsters can also submit their information "on the go" by using our text tip program and the same two-way anonymous communication can be implemented if needed. Again, this results in more cash for the tipster and more arrests for law enforcement.

Since the implementation of the website and text tips in September, more reward money has been paid out and more arrests made. From September through mid November, the crime stoppers program has paid more reward money in this time frame than through the entire year of 2007. Twelve arrests and drugs with an estimated street value of $1600 have been taken off of our streets from mid October to mid November, due to concerned tipsters through the Dawson County Crime Stoppers program. These arrests and drug seizures would simply not have occurred if not for concerned citizens making anonymous tips. And they were all paid with cash.
